Vietnam vs Corona Virus: How to Donate to Fight COVID-19

Last updated September 2021 | Words by Vietnam Coracle

Vietnam is currently facing a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections that has been by far the worst outbreak since the pandemic began here in January, 2020. Almost all Vietnam’s COVID-19 cases have been recorded since May, 2021. Much of the nation is back in lock-down and, unlike most Western nations, Vietnam has yet to procure large numbers of vaccine doses, nor is the national vaccine program even close to reaching a significant percentage of the population. Despite this, Vietnam has done a spectacular job in containing COVID-19 so far compared to most countries. At the time of latest update (14 September, 2021), there were 625,000 reported cases nationwide, and 15,660 deaths. This is an extraordinary effort for a country of nearly 100 million people. But, things are getting worse. Vietnam needs your support. One way to help Vietnam fight the virus is to donate to both the Vaccine Fund and the general pandemic relief effort. If you’d like to contribute to the nation’s fight against the virus, please consider making a donation via one of the official channels listed below

The financial costs of an effective fight against the COVID-19 virus and the acquisition of the vaccination against it are huge. Above all, Vietnam needs to maintain its medical and quarantine facilities, obtain many millions of vaccine doses and provide support for the thousands who’ve lost their jobs. There are hundreds of thousands of people involved in this effort, many of whom do so at great personal and financial cost. Your donations, no matter how big or small, will make a difference: even a dollar enables the purchase of food supplies or face masks. Below, I’ve compiled a list of ways to donate, including any relevant links.

*Please note: I do not claim to be an authority on either COVID-19 or the efforts to contain it, nor do I have any affiliation with the government or any of the institutions through which you can make a donation. But I, like everyone I know, have felt the affects of the outbreak and I, like everyone I know, have been impressed by the way Vietnam has dealt with it so far. If you have any more information about how to donate to Vietnam’s COVID-19 relief effort, please write in the comments section at the bottom of this page. Thank you

Vaccine Fund Donation (by text message)

By far the easiest, fastest, most direct way to donate to Vietnam’s COVID-19 Vaccine Fund is by text message. This method only works within Vietnam, and only for people with a Vietnamese SIM card. It is set up by the government’s Vietnam Fatherland Front and takes your pledged donation directly from your phone’s account (remember that you must have enough money on your phone in order to make the donation). The process is simple and quick, and is the preferred way to donate relatively small amounts (1,000vnđ-2,000,000vnđ [$0.50-$85]) for people within Vietnam. Follow the directions below:

on your phone, go to messaging

compose new message

enter recipient number: 1408

enter message text: Covid NK (NOTE: the letter ‘N’ is equal to any number; K is equal to 1,000vnd: thus, if you want to donate 50,000vnd, enter message Covid 50K; if 100,000vnd, enter message Covid 100K; if 1,000,000vnd, enter message Covid 1000K; if 2,000,000vnd, enter message Covid 2000K

press send message

you will receive a reply in Vietnamese confirming the amount of your donation and thanking you for your support in the fight against COVID-19 and procuring the vaccine.

*If you’d like to know more about the text message donation method, please read this page in Vietnamese or translate it into your preferred language.

      Hi Keith,

The channels listed on this page are the only ways to donate that I’m aware of. But if you have a credit card, you must have access to online banking or a transfer app, which you can use to donate using the information above.

If not, perhaps some one else will have an answer for you in this comment section later today.

Transferwise app would also be an easy way to donate, it’s how I pay my rent into a Vietnamese bank account every month.
